The impacts of climate disruption are hitting communities around the world, in all countries, in all regions. The levers of action are located in relationships—between stakeholders and decision-makers and in the ways in which public policy is designed and solutions are made into mainstream reality.

The Climate Civics mission starts from the recognition that you are a climate stakeholder. All people, and all living things, are climate stakeholders. You have a right to have a say in decisions that make your life safer or less safe.

At the grassroots level, Climate Civics educates, empowers, and organizes stakeholder advocates in across 6 continents, supporting improvement of civic and policy structures to build political will for a livable future. Climate Civics advocates bring their priorities and insights to decision-makers and help to organize local meetings to shape policies that counter climate disruption and favor climate-resilient development.

At the international level, Climate Civics works to advance multilateral climate cooperation. Our aim is to bring stakeholders’ insights, needs, and priorities to the work of aligning finance and investment with climate-resilient development, advancing climate-smart trade, and reducing vulnerability to people, communities, and countries.

Our Principles

We believe everyone’s chances of success, including governments and industry, are enhanced when the design of our world is shaped by the needs and aspirations of all people. Our empowerment and advocacy efforts are built on these principles:

  • Rights — By virtue of existing, you are a climate stakeholder; you have a right to expect a healthy climate and a livable future.
  • Participation — Inclusive civics allows for participatory design, where outcomes are attuned to human need and sustainable wellbeing.
  • Efficacy — We support policies that drive clear, widespread, effective reductions in climate pollution, while building sustainable prosperity.
  • Integrity — We believe the best solutions are informed by science, and use evidence to plan responsibly—in line with rights, participation, and efficacy.

Our Program Goals

Our core program goals are oriented toward empowering people to build a world that works for everyone, free from climate disruption and with sustainable prosperity open to all.

Our History

Climate Civics is based on 20 years of work by its founder Joseph Robertson and a team of allies and advocates. Our aim is to bring people together in mindful civic spaces, where diverse views and interests can support cooperative problem-solving. Our flagship program is the Climate Value Exchange—a cooperative innovation platform supporting events, insight-sharing, education and empowerment workshops, policy briefs and dispatches aimed at activating locally rooted international climate cooperation.

Our Logo

Considering what is at stake in the ongoing process of cooperative climate crisis response, Climate Civics has adopted a new logo. We call it our Watersheds logo. It evokes our planetary reality and what that means for human security and prosperity. Read more.
